AUSTIN,TX, December 17, 2019 – In December, the Rick Kennedy for Congress campaign hosted two charitable drives in Congressional District TX17. The first one was held in Pflugerville and collected donations to help pay down lunch debt within the Pflugerville Independent School District.

“In the land of plenty, there should be no concern about whether schoolchildren get fed. I’m appreciative of the Pflugerville school district letting parents carry a debit balance for lunches until the families are able to pay them off,” said Kennedy. “As a campaign, we thought it would be a good idea to give back to the district by contributing toward that debt. Our supporters thought so too and we are grateful for their generosity.”

A second charitable drive was held in Cameron to collect socks to give to The Clothes Closet at the Cameron Grove Baptist Church.

Kennedy said, “At this time of year, socks are prized by people in need. Socks are such a simple thing, but they make a huge difference. In TX17, we are fortunate to have many worthy faith-based organizations making a difference in their communities, month in and month out.”

The response was so positive to these events, Kennedy said they were already making plans to hold similar ones in 2020. “You can always count on the people of this district to come through and help others,” he said.

Rick Kennedy is a software engineer, who lives in Austin. He challenged Bill Flores in 2018 and announced his intention to run again in 2020. The 17th includes Brazos, Burleson, Falls, Freestone, Limestone, McLennan, Milam, and Robertson counties; also portions of Bastrop, Lee, Leon, and Travis counties. Rick Kennedy finished the 2018 midterm election with the closest margin of any Democrat since the district was redrawn in 2011.
